Owl Cigar Store
A historic Canon City institution since 1903, serving classic American diner fare, legendary burgers, and honest drinks in a nostalgic atmosphere where locals and visitors mix freely.
The Owl Cigar Store has been a Canon City landmark since 1903—and despite its name, it hasn't sold cigars since the mid-90s. What it does serve is some of the best diner food in the Arkansas Valley, with a side of genuine local character.
History That Lives
In its 120-plus years, The Owl has been a pool hall, gambling hall, cigar store, and since the 1970s, a beloved family restaurant. The Santilli family bought it in 1943 after returning from World War II, pooling $1,300 to invest in their shared dream. The same family still runs it today, maintaining the authentic atmosphere that makes it special.
What to Order
The burgers are legendary—made the old-fashioned way without pretense. Crispy fries, honest drinks from the full bar, and daily specials round out a menu designed for hungry visitors. Pull up a stool at the original counter or slide into a well-worn booth.
The Real Thing
This isn't manufactured nostalgia. The regulars at the bar know each other's names. The conversations are real. As owner Susie Santilli puts it: 'It's like going home.' For visitors seeking authenticity over Instagram moments, The Owl delivers.
