Duration: Full day
Day one is all about the water. Start with a half-day rafting trip on the Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge section — Class III-V rapids, 1,000-foot canyon walls, and professional guides. After lunch at Whitewater Bar & Grill on the campus, head out for a zipline session above the canyon. Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon to rest up.

The WhiteWater Bar & Grill is the natural end to an epic first day. The full outdoor bar, live music on weekends, sand volleyball, and the famous margaritas create an atmosphere that's part celebration, part community gathering. Photo kiosks display your rafting action shots from the day. Order the BBQ Brisket, grab a round of drinks, and tell the stories from the river.

Start day two at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park — America's highest suspension bridge at 955 feet above the Arkansas River. Walk across, ride the aerial gondola across the canyon, and take in the view that makes this one of Colorado's most visited sites. Early morning means fewer crowds. Budget 2 hours here.

Board the Royal Gorge Route Railroad in downtown Canon City for a 2-hour round-trip through the bottom of the Royal Gorge. The narrow-gauge train runs along the river at canyon-floor level, offering a completely different perspective than the bridge above. Book in advance — trains sell out in summer.

Grab a table on the 2,000 sq ft rooftop patio, order craft cocktails and signature sandwiches, and take in one final panoramic view of the mountains before the drive home.
