Fremont Peak Trail
Summit Fremont Peak for panoramic views of the Arkansas Valley, Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and surrounding high desert landscape.
A Local Summit
Fremont Peak offers a rewarding hike with summit views that span the Arkansas Valley and surrounding mountain ranges. The trail climbs steadily through high desert terrain before reaching the rocky summit, where the panorama includes the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and even glimpses of the Royal Gorge Bridge.
The Hike
The trail is well-marked and maintained, suitable for hikers with moderate fitness. Expect some elevation gain and exposed sections where sun protection becomes essential. The high desert environment means little shade along much of the route.
Planning Your Hike
Start early during summer months to avoid afternoon thunderstorms common in Colorado mountain country. Bring plenty of water—the dry climate and elevation increase hydration needs. The trailhead offers parking but limited facilities.
