Mountain Biking the Royal Gorge Region

Ride singletrack and dirt roads through the diverse terrain surrounding Canon City, from desert riding to mountain trails.

Trails for Every Rider

The Royal Gorge region offers mountain biking terrain ranging from flowy desert singletrack to technical rocky descents. The area's lower elevation and southern exposure mean rideable conditions persist well into winter when higher trails are snow-covered.

Trail Systems

Oil Well Flats provides the most established trail network, with loops for various skill levels. Additional trails in the area include options near the Hogbacks, Temple Canyon, and connecting routes throughout the region.

Getting Set Up

Several Canon City shops offer bike rentals and local route information. Trails are generally free to ride. Bring plenty of water—the high desert terrain offers little shade, and dehydration can sneak up on riders in the dry climate.

  • Desert to mountain terrain
